About Us

Here at North Staffordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group, we ensure that all our members feel welcome and supported during a difficult time in their lives. Whatever happens we are a friendly group which aims to ensure that each individual sufferer's needs are met.    New members and their wives or partners are always welcomed with open arms and support is provided for all those that need it.
There is no formal membership and no subscriptions.      

Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, ( except December) at 6 to 8 pm in the Joiners Square Community Centre, Cornes St., off Leek Rd., Hanley  ST1 3JA 

 

At present our membership is in excess of 150 with 40 to 50 patients and carers regularly attending meetings.  Everyone and anyone is welcome, whether it is the sufferer or the sufferers family or friends wanting to know what to do to help. We are all in it together.

We offer peer group support and information for prostate cancer patients and their carers and adult family members .  We are not medically trained and so are not qualified to give advice, but we give the opportunity for newly diagnosed patients to speak to others who are still under treatment or who have had a successful outcome and compare experiences to gain an idea of what to expect from the various therapies on offer.  

The group also holds awareness days at various local venues, supermarkets, clinics, places of work etc. North Staffordshire has one of the highest levels of late diagnosis of prostate cancer and we believe that informing the public about the symptoms and effects of the disease  is vital in improving outcomes.

The North Staffordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group is a registered charity with the Charities Commission for England and Wales and is affiliated to 'Tackle' the National Federation of Support Groups.  We also have close links with the Northwest Group of Prostate Cancer Support Groups based in Stockport and meeting at The Christie Hospital, Manchester.

Directions for Joiners Square Community Centre.

From Joiners Square roundabout at the bottom of Lichfield Street, Hanley take Leek Road. northwards towards Bucknall for about 100 metres then turn right into Austin Street. At the end of Austin Street turn right into Cornes Street. The hall is at the end of Cornes Street.  Parking is available.
